Romans 13 has been used to justify slavery, the Third Reich, apartheid, and family separation at the US border. It's the text progressive Christians quietly avoid — and that silence, it turns out, hands the passage over to exactly the people who've done the most damage with it. This sermon goes straight in: the Greek, the history, Paul's actual situation, and the question of what you do when a text has been turned against your neighbors.
