Jesus seems to pick a side in the Mary and Martha story — and it's the one who's just sitting there. That doesn't sit well with a lot of us, especially in progressive churches where doing the work of justice is basically a sacrament. But what if Jesus isn't actually ranking contemplation over service? What if the real issue isn't what Martha is doing, but the resentment and scorekeeping underneath it? In this sermon, we take an honest poll, name a real tension, and look at what it means to ground whatever we do — serving, praying, showing up — in love rather than something else.
