It’s easy to forget, but Jesus never wrote a book. Not a letter. Not a scroll. Not even a creed.
In a faith tradition so rooted in words and scripture, that’s a striking fact. Instead of writing things down, Jesus healed. He walked. He told stories. He shared meals. He wept. He wandered. He spoke truth to power and tenderness to the brokenhearted. But he left behind no written record of his own.
What he left was community: people, friends and followers who remembered what he said and did. Who argued about it. Who tried to live it out and wrote that down, not as a script to follow line by line, but as a witness to the movement he started.
Which means Christianity didn’t begin with a book. It began with a way of life. A way of being human. A way of loving that was so powerful it had to be shared, again and again, across generations.
So yes, we honor scripture. But we also remember this: Jesus’ legacy was not a manuscript. It was a movement. And our job is not just to read it. It is to live it.
