Where did the Bible come from, who wrote it, and how do we read it well?
This class starts from a simple conviction: we take the Bible seriously, but not literally. That means getting into the messy, human history behind the text, who wrote it, when, and why, and what that history has to say about how we hold it today. A lot of that work is just understanding what’s actually in the book: the different kinds of writing, the centuries it spans, the arguments it contains with itself.
