Message: “Unhrehearsed Christmas Pageant” from The Hillside Community

Rev. Tom Hathaway - January 4, 2026

Rightly Placed

We live under a sky so vast it can make human life feel either inflated or insignificant. This sermon lingers in that tension. Drawing on breathtaking images of the universe and the ancient poetry of Psalm 8, it explores how awe can lead not to despair or ego, but to orientation. We are not the center of creation, and we are not an accident either. Instead, we are small, placed, and entrusted with care for the corner of the world within our reach. It’s a message about wonder, responsibility, and finding our footing beneath a very big sky.

Scripture References: Psalms 8:1-9

From Series: "A Million Little Miracles"

This four week series invites us to experience the world with awe, wonder, and a renewed sense of enchantment, learning to slow down and notice what we usually rush past. It is about paying attention to the small, overlooked moments that quietly shape our lives, from unexpected kindness to moments of clarity and connection. Together we will revisit familiar stories in fresh ways and practice seeing the ordinary world as something alive with meaning, beauty, and hope.
