Sunday Morning Worship

Ruth sneaks onto a threshing floor at night, uncovers a man's feet, and lies down. What that means depends on who you ask. But the real question is why — why this story got written right after a nation decided to purge the outsiders in its midst, and why one man with power keeps giving more than he has to. Stick around for the last line.

A famine leaves a foreign widow named Ruth with nothing but an aging mother in law and a refusal to walk away. What follows is small and slow, yet by the end it has redrawn a family and bent the course of history. That’s the gift of Ruth: it insists God’s redemption usually arrives not in the spectacular but in the ordinary, in quiet choices to stay, to act with integrity, to be generous when no one’s watching. This summer, come ask what the book is asking us. How might God already be at work in the unremarkable corners of our lives?
