One of the easiest ways to misunderstand God’s unconditional love is to imagine that it means nothing really matters. If God loves everyone no matter what, does that mean wrongdoing simply gets waved away? No!
Unconditional love does not mean pretending harm did not happen or calling injustice acceptable. It does not mean that trust must be restored immediately, that boundaries are unnecessary, or that people should be protected from every consequence of what they have done.
We already understand this in other kinds of love. A parent can love a child deeply while still holding them accountable. A friend can care for someone while refusing to excuse harmful behavior.
God’s unconditional love works the same way. Love does not require denial. It does not erase responsibility. It simply means that no failure, cruelty, or wrong places a person beyond the possibility of being loved.
