Mother’s Day is one of those Sundays that fills a room with very different feelings all at once.
For some it is pure joy. A chance to celebrate someone deeply loved, or to receive that celebration. For others it is complicated in ways that are hard to name in polite company. Maybe your relationship with your mother was painful or unresolved. Maybe you wanted to be a mother and it didn’t happen. Maybe you are missing someone whose absence feels louder than usual. Maybe motherhood has cost you more than anyone around you seems to understand.
The church has not always been good at holding all of that at once. We have tended toward the greeting card version of the day, which is lovely for some and quietly alienating for others.
Whoever you are this morning, and whatever you are carrying, you are welcome here. The full weight of it. The grief and the gratitude and everything in between.
