WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IN WORSHIP

Ruth: Redeeming Love

A famine leaves a foreign widow named Ruth with nothing but an aging mother in law and a refusal to walk away. What follows is small and slow, yet by the end it has redrawn a family and bent the course of history. That’s the gift of Ruth: it insists God’s redemption usually arrives not in the spectacular but in the ordinary, in quiet choices to stay, to act with integrity, to be generous when no one’s watching. This summer, come ask what the book is asking us. How might God already be at work in the unremarkable corners of our lives?

Tricky Texts

In this sermon, Tara dives into the letter to Philemon with honesty, humor, and a clear-eyed look at how scripture has been used both to heal and to harm. She traces the wildly different interpretations Christians have taken across history, wrestles with what we do when the Bible is weaponized, and invites us to reclaim these texts through the lens of love.

Scripture References: Philemon 1:1-25
